Without Trevi, I would be homeless, on drugs and in an abusive relationship
“For years I was made to feel like I was the problem – the confusion was overwhelming. Over Christmas time it was hard, most people spend time with their children, family and friends and go Christmas shopping. I wasn’t allowed to do anything like that. I had to stay in the house, I wasn’t allowed to visit my family, I wasn’t allowed to see my older children, he would go out and have Christmas dinner and I had to stay indoors on my own. It was hard.”
“Trevi helped me to understand the different roles that a perpetrator can play. Every session was like a light bulb moment. My ex-partner made me believe that no one else would love me and that I didn’t deserve anyone to love me. Trevi taught me to recognise red flags in a toxic relationship.”
Please donate today to help women and children this Christmas.
We’re impatient to see a world without violence against women and girls
The fact is that every 6 seconds in Britain, another woman is assaulted in her own home. Plymouth is one of the largest cities on the south coast, with a high prevalence of domestic violence. With a year-on-year increase of 21%; domestic violence accounts for 27% of all crime in Plymouth, compared to the national figure of 16%.
At Trevi we’re impatient to see a world without violence against women and girls. Until then, our work will not stop. Over the past year, 90% of women said that our Sunflower Women’s Centre was a lifeline, with 88% of women reporting they were able to move forward in life.
Our specialist team works with every woman according to what she needs. We provide women-only spaces that are designed to be safe and nurturing. Our trauma-informed tutors deliver courses such as the freedom programme, which helps survivors make sense of what’s happened so they can achieve a fresh start in life. Our experienced practitioners provide 1-1 support for any woman – no matter what stage of her journey – ensuring that every woman is safe, supported and all her needs are met. We are also working hard to educate and promote issues whilst elevating women’s voices to address stigma and drive societal change.
