women’s voices
The experience of the women we support informs everything we do; from the services we provide to our influencing and campaigning work.
Sharing women’s stories is important in order to help eliminate stigma, create system change and to break the cycle of trauma and abuse.
Since our BBC Panorama programme in 2018, we have worked with women to help them find a way to share their story safely.
Through listening to our podcasts and reading women’s stories, we hope you gain a deeper understanding of women’s experiences.
“The women from Trevi really brought to life some of the issues we have been exploring and reaffirmed for me that we need to listen to every single word parents say to us.”
Six years ago, Michelle was pregnant, addicted to hard drugs, and in an abusive relationship. She felt disappointed and disgusted with herself. Social services got involved; they told her they were looking to take her daughter away from her at birth. She couldn’t see a way out.
Michelle says: ‘I don’t know where I would be without Trevi. They came into my life just at the right time. I can’t explain in words just how much they did for my daughter and me. Without Trevi, my life doesn’t bear thinking about. With more than 80,000 children in care right now, I just wish that more families could get the chance like I had. Trevi truly makes a difference.’
Watch this powerful film to find out what happened to Michelle and her daughter.
We were thrilled when Sunflower’s Strategic Lead, Laura, met Davina McCall to talk all things Trevi and the menopause.
In the podcast Laura introduces Trevi to Davina and the incredible work we do in supporting women to heal, thrive and grow.
The discussion turns to the menopause, HRT and brain fog! Davina opens up about her own menopause journey as well as chatting about the myths and realities for all women experiencing the menopause and how they can access support.
Trevi catches up with Jenny and Kim of Hip Hip Hooray social enterprise, which launched a brand new Women’s Employment Programme in 2020 for women in recovery.
Kim, who was referred to Hip Hip Hooray by Trevi’s Sunflower Women’s Centre, tells all about her paid position within the cards and stationery business, and how she is helping business director, Jenny, to shape the programme going forward. A truly inspiring podcast, 30 minutes long.
