Kickstart your year with purpose and passion as local women’s charity, Trevi, invites you to lace up your trainers and help them make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and children affected by domestic abuse and violence.
Registration is now open for the city’s biggest running event, The Plymouth Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k, which will take place on Sunday, April 28. Starting and finishing on Plymouth Hoe, the iconic half marathon, 10k and 5k races are popular among runners worldwide. Those that sign up to run for Trevi will receive a 50% discount on their entry fee across all distances.
Last year’s event saw nearly 50 runners take to the city streets in aid of Trevi, raising over £8,500 between them! Mel Severi, Community Fundraiser and organiser of the event at Trevi, says,
‘The Plymouth Half Marathon annually brings together thousands of participants to conquer its iconic route. Featuring stunning coastal vistas, the scenic National Trust grounds of Saltram Park, and the beloved Plymouth Hoe, the event holds a special place in the hearts of many of our community members.
‘Running is a great way to improve your physical and mental health, as well as to support a charity that matters to you. Whether you’re running for fun, to remember a loved one or to achieve a personal best, every mile will be making such a difference to all the women and children we support.
‘This is an annual fundraising for us that celebrates those runners’ resilience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of women and girls affected by male violence. This is another way for the people of Plymouth to show their support to ending all crimes of violence against women and girls. We invite everyone to join us in this impactful event and be part of something truly transformative.’
Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual jogger, or simply passionate about giving back, Trevi would be thrilled to have you take part. Participants are reminded that there is no pressure in running the half marathon, and they can choose their preferred distance, from a leisurely walk to a challenging marathon, catering to every fitness level and goal.
Lyn ran the half marathon for the charity last year for Trevi. She says,
‘After taking the plunge to sign up, it was reassuring to feel part of a group all geared up for the same goal. Knowing that I was running for Trevi gave me an extra push and certainly helped me to stay focussed when any training runs felt difficult! It was great on the day seeing all the other Trevi runners and being part of the team.’
Trevi runners will be again easy to spot on the day in their complimentary bright pink vests, t-shirts and super ‘Shero’ capes plus, this year, the charity is supporting their tribe with suggested training plans to get them as ready as they can be.
For that extra special touch, Trevi would also love it if runners could ‘pink it up’ on the day.
Trevi continues to work tirelessly to support women in recovery and those women and their children affected by domestic violence and abuse.
Supporting over 1000 women each year, Trevi’s residential houses and Sunflower Women’s Centre provide safe and nurturing spaces for women and their families to heal, grow and thrive.
After success with their outreach program and Blossom fundraising appeal last year, Trevi has recently opened its women-only accommodation to allow them to support more women with complex needs. Providing a wrap-around service enables women feel safe, and secure.
All money raised by our runners will help Trevi to continue to provide vital support services to vulnerable women across the city.
